4 JUNE – 17 JULY
WOMEN, POWER AND POLITICS
★★★★ Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, Evening Standard
‘Sparky, spiky, humorous, wistful… directed with enormous energy by Indhu Rubasingham… there are undisputed treasures in each section. Women, Power and Politics is a terrific achievement and crucial, frightening viewing, for both sexes.’ Evening Standard
‘A fascinating look at why women are under-represented in our democracy. Funny, thought-provoking, perfectly played. The cast of 12 are excellent. There’s plenty to provoke, stimulate, amuse’ The Times
It is 92 years since women were first allowed to stand for Parliament and yet Britain still has one of the smallest percentages of women in Government in Europe. Why is this? The Women, Power and Politics Season seeks to ask questions, and look at the complexity of women and political power in the United Kingdom.
In a response to this issue twelve playwrights wrote twelve exciting new plays that are presented in two parts, THEN and NOW, tracing the history of women from Elizabeth I, through the Suffragettes, the Thatcher years, Greenham Common, to women in politics today.
Limited free tickets available for Friday 2nd July and Wednesday 7th July.
